From farmbots to self-drive tractors: solutions and opportunities in Agritech

Australia’s terrain and climate are among the harshest on the planet. Sustainable growth in agricultural production and food security requires some pretty tough and rugged machinery and custom-made wiring solutions. As a specialist Australian custom-wiring designer and contractor, Complete Wiring is really excited about the future and some of the latest technological developments.

The global Agritech sector is booming, with massive investment in research (worth US$51.7 billion in 2021) and development of ever more complex tech systems built into everything from harvesters and refrigerated transport to automated irrigation systems, cattle surveillance and well pumps. The New South Wales Government predicts Agritech will be Australia’s next $100 billion industry by 2030.

In tandem with this new technology there’s a huge growth in demand for customised wiring systems designed specifically to keep things running efficiently in ultra-challenging conditions. Complete Wiring is already collaborating with clients to develop advanced agricultural wiring solutions, such as monitoring, control and mapping technology systems, so we’re skilled and ready to assist with anything new coming our way!

There’s lots happening around the world. In the UK, robots Tom, Dick and Harry are the latest innovation aiming to boost crop yields remotely and sustainably. Developed by the Small Robot Company, it’s hoped this prototype trio will be able to data map fields, treat weeds and problem areas and precision plant seeds, increasing effectiveness and reducing human input in completing the same tasks.

Meanwhile, everyone predicts we’ll be seeing many more farmbots, smart farming solutions like virtual fencing, and disruption in farm machinery design such as John Deere’s fully-autonomous tractor revealed by the company in March.

Standard wiring systems frequently lack the advantages offered by custom made products. Tailored for machinery used in specific environmental situations (such as irrigation) custom wiring and harnesses perform more effectively than standard products in reducing the costs and downtime for equipment maintenance and replacing components and wiring when things go wrong.

With food security becoming a major global issue, we’re really proud our Complete Wiring team is contributing to the solutions!
